New Feature: Free Fiction Page

Posted on February 7th, 2008

If you look at the menu bar up top, you will see a Free Fiction button. On that page, I have begun hosting full text versions of some of the more recent stories I have reviewed. It is growing slowly but surely, and adds yet another reading option for you.

This Week’s Free Science Fiction

Posted on October 27th, 2007

I’m still working on “The Mummy” because it is big (originally a three volume set) and it did not scan and OCR all that well. So there is a lot of hand editing and proofing to be doen and it is proceeding slowly. I’m about 1/5 of the way through.

In the meantime, though, Futurismic compiles a list every Friday of free fiction available.

This week’s spotlight includes works from R.A. Lafferty, Fritz Leiber, Warren Ellis, and Cory Doctorow among many others.

Posted on August 23rd, 2007

Work obligations are consuming my time and energy at an alarming rate, but I hope to be back posting in a week or so, so stay tuned.

The next story in the timeline is Jane Loudon’s The Mummy.

A New Direction

Posted on July 9th, 2007

I’ve been rethinking the format for this blog and decided a new approach is in order. Previously, things were a bit slapdash, with Piper chosen at random as the first author just because I happened to be reading him at the time.

From now on, the core science fiction and fantasy books that will be reviewed will be in roughly chronological order, starting with what some consider to be the first SF book, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The goal is to slowly proceed through the history of science fiction and related fantasy to better understand the genres through an examination of their roots. You are invited to read along.
